One day notice closure
Where do I start? Let’s try to be positive about this. Lately, every visit of the gym would cause me an injury, so I’m actually happy that this problem sorted itself, because I didn’t really wanna go anymore. In addition, my boi Qoheleth says (Ecclesiastes 7:8 NIV): “The end of a matter is better than its beginning”, so let’s rejoice that this particular matter came to an end. But there are things that rub me the wrong way about this. Here, have a read.

Subject: Important Update Regarding Heyford Park Gym
Dear Member,
We are writing to let you know that, from Saturday 14th February 2026, Heyford Park Gym will be closed.
Due to the financial viability of running the gym within a school setting, combined with the upcoming primary school expansion, it is no longer appropriate or feasible to maintain a gym facility on the school site.
You may already be aware that a new gym, K-Fit, is opening in Heyford on 2nd March 2026. We are pleased to offer all current members the opportunity to transfer their membership to K-Fit at your current rate of £20 for your first month.
If you would like to take up this offer, please respond use the QR code below no later than Saturday 28th February 2026. Unfortunately, this offer will not be available after this date.
You can use the following link and promo code to access the offer:
www.kfit-gym.com
Promo code: HEYFORD20
All memberships for the month of February will be cancelled and refunded in full within the next week.
We are sincerely sorry for the short notice of this change, and we want to thank you for being part of Heyford Park Gym. We have greatly appreciated your support and membership during your time with us.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Andrew Binnington

Now, what you don’t know, is that I received this e-mail today, that is 13th February 2026 and I dug through the source code and yeah, the web version was published today also, so the date you see there is backdated. So, here’s the deal. I got one day notice of the closure. I asked an LLM to spin that notice into a story, but it completely missed the short notice. That means, that I might be the odd one out, since an LLM is average of everyone, but gee, I sure wish I would get more than one day notice.
That main point I want to get across is this. No one cares anymore. They must have know about the financial situation, about the school expanding, about quite literally everything with more than one day notice. But did they bother to shut the operations with decent manners? I will let the one day notice speak for itself. At least those 3 days, when they ostensibly drafted the letter, would be nice. Does everyone check their e-mail daily? Alas, they say it’s a fast era we live in, so brace yourselves.
