Just have LLM reinvent the wheel, bro

Just have LLM reinvent the wheel, bro

Okay, this is gonna be a short one, so to make it a bit longer, let me tell you how I keep note of things I want to come back to. I leave a tab open in my browser. That’s it. Simple. The problem is, the interesting tabs pile up and that then prevents me from doing just about any job, because looking at all the open tabs is demoralizing. I do have some other systems of keeping track, but this is what we’re dealing with today - open tab in my browser and closing it.

Also, I think I already touch on it, but this is worth banging on about. Ideally, I’d like to archive a mirror here, so my version never goes down, so the link always works, as long as my website works. Alas, it’s actually a lot of effort and then you realize, it also takes a lot of space and so on and so forth, so we’re gonna have to rely on the site not going down and people being able to find specific information, by looking for it, should they be interested. E.g. Primeagen made a video about it. How are you supposed to find it, when the title says “This Is Crazy” and there’s no links to MALUS in the description? That’s an extremely good question. But I’ll leave the answer to the reader today.

Also, vol. 2, in an attempt to make this post, I discovered that Hugo makes some changes to your files that contain underscores. All I can say is, nobody should ever use ready made SSGs. Because when you’re trying to do something simple, like pointing to a specific point on your own website, like I’m doing above, there are unexpected ways of it breaking. When I switched from underscored to dashes, the problem went away. The retarded bit is, I heard that a space can be a problem, but since there was no space in my filename, I didn’t think the filename is the problem. So my message is, just roll your own. With blackjack. And hookers.

And this was actually a good segue into our topic today. Now, funnily enough, people usually promote the “don’t reinvent the wheel” sentiment. But with MALUS, not only you’re reinventing the wheel, but you’re doing it from scratch. Well, maybe not from scratch proper, but you know, a “clean room reimplementation”, legally speaking. It’s actually difficult to point out how stupid this all is, as it’s very fundamental. First, running AI in 2026 is extremely expensive. Let’s start there. Second, the entire point of the proposed service, is to bypass the licence. Now, these two points are actually at odds, because the AI has been trained on the very source code, so how is it clean room anything? Normally, people would say that you should ask your solicitor about this, but I know they would advise you, that nobody knows until there is a precedent. I will tell you, in contrast with the other people, that this is clearly retarded and if we have to think about this, we already lost a chance of building well functioning society. This is very clearly a bad idea.

Third, why do you need to rip off open source anyway? Is it to make money? That’s funny, because open source saves you so much effort. Well, broadly speaking, I realize that that’s not actually the case, but ultimately, AI is not trained on source code to proprietary software, is it? Do you think Microslop let OpenAI train on Windows repos? If you want to use AI for the so called “clean room reimplementation”, this wouldn’t be possible if the AI was not trained on it to begin with. But remember, this is a side point, I was talking about making money. All evil corporations sponsor open source to push their agenda all the time. I’m saying, that if you need to make money using open source, you don’t need “clean room reimplementation”, you can just purchase a seat on the board and forge your own licence for using the software. This makes sense, if you’re an evil corporation, as you’re after profit, so the least you can do is to throw a bone to the peasants who are allowing you to enslave the world. Why are we building a world, where the best case scenario, nobody ever gets paid for serving these greedy slave masters? It’s just plain bizarre to me.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to bang on about the bugmen, who waffle on about not reinventing a wheel. So, fourth, why is it suddenly fine to reinvent the wheel? I’m just looking for some consistency, man. They’re always telling you that you are a bad programmer, so you should always use a library, because somebody smarter than you wrote it. But now, we’re completely fine coercing hallucinating chatbot generating bad version of available software. And remember, it is a bad version, because the best output it can give, would be a 100% match with the software you’re trying to hijack, completely falling into the licensing trap you’re trying to avoid. So, … I have no idea what to make of this. I mean, I know what to make of it, but I have no idea how other people can hold these contradictory beliefs. I am baffled and I protest.

I don’t think I need to continue, I have made my point. I am obviously aware, that the website is a satire. And it’s a good thing that they made the effort to publish it. To conclude, those with eyes to see and ears to hear (and brain to think), use those cognitive faculties independently!
